Bipolar & Beyond

Bipolar and Beyond (BAB), is a new blog set up by Kerrie to tell her own story about living with mental illnesses.

Everyone’s stories are unique to themselves, and everyone has their own inner demons that the outside world doesn’t know about. Kerrie wishes to share hers in the hope that it may help other young mums with mental illness who are struggling to cope; or simply for the chance to give others something to relate to and know that they are not alone.

So what is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that affects your moods, which can swing from one extreme to another. It used to be known as manic depression.

People with bipolar disorder have episodes of:

  • Depression – feeling very low and lethargic
  • Mania – feeling very high and overactive

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder depend on which mood you’re experiencing. Unlike simple mood swings, each extreme episode of Bipolar Disorder can last for several weeks (or even longer) and some people may not experience a “normal” mood very often.
