Behind the Mic at BBC Manchester

Yesterday was one of those pinch-me days I’ll never forget. I had the incredible opportunity to visit BBC Manchester at Media City for a radio interview — and to say it was surreal would be an understatement.

Walking through the doors of the BBC felt like stepping into a world I’ve admired since I was little. The buzz of Media City, the studios, the history in those walls — it was enough to make any storyteller’s heart race. But the real highlight was being invited to talk about my writing journey, my books, and the dreams that keep me moving forward.

Talking Books

One of the main focuses of the interview was my 1940s detective novel, The Blackout Murders.

I also had the chance to tease my upcoming book, Shell Shock. This story digs even deeper into the psychological scars of war and how they ripple through generations. It’s darker, more haunting, and I can’t wait to share it with you all soon. To talk about it live, knowing it’s just around the corner, gave me a huge rush of excitement (and a few butterflies, too!).

A Dream Worth Chasing

Of course, no conversation about my writing would be complete without mentioning my ultimate dream: to write for Doctor Who. Anyone who knows me knows how deeply this show has inspired me — not just as a writer, but as a person. To tell stories that take people across time and space, to challenge what it means to be human, to make people laugh, cry, and maybe hide behind the sofa a little . . . that’s the dream. And speaking it out loud on BBC Manchester felt like a step closer.

The Takeaway

Walking out of the studio, I felt a mixture of relief, joy, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Opportunities like this don’t come around every day, and I’m so thankful to BBC Upload and BBC Manchester for having me on.

If there’s one thing I took from the day, it’s this: stories matter. Whether they’re murder mysteries set in the Blitz, haunting tales of war’s legacy, or adventures through time and space, stories connect us in ways nothing else can. And that’s why I’ll never stop writing them.

Here’s to more days like this, more books to share, and — hopefully — a few trips in the TARDIS along the way.
